Preparing for Life Beyond University

What happens after the lecture hall? At KEF’s Pilot Alumni Engagement Forum, second-year university students came together with alumni, professionals, and mentors for two days of honest conversations about financial confidence, mental wellbeing, careers, entrepreneurship, personal branding, and navigating life beyond university.

Most importantly, the forum reminded students that they do not have to navigate the journey alone. Through the KEF community, they can learn from those who have walked the path before them.

As Kenya Education Fund marks 25 years of transforming lives through education, we brought together liaison teachers from our partner schools for the 2026 Liaison Teachers Conference. Over three days, educators explored student mental health, mentorship, human-centered design, and preparing scholars for Kenya's evolving education landscape.

Kenya Education Fund hosted our Principals’ meeting bringing together 45 heads of KEF partner schools and key partners including the KCB Foundation, Zeraki, Contentment, and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

Like many students in vulnerable communities, school was a dream that felt uncertain with each passing term.

“It feels like a second home. They are understanding and passionate about helping the vulnerable and needy in society.”

It wasn’t just about school fees or supplies. It was the generosity, the warmth, the feeling of being seen and supported that changed everything. Jeff remembers how the KEF team welcomed him, believed in him, and gave him the tools to chase his dream.

My name is Dominic Muema Muchema, the son of a peasant farmer from a remote village called Katulani, in Kitui County. I lost my mom when I was barely nine years old.
