A Second Home: Hellen’s Journey
Hellen at her third KEF workshop in 2025
In the heart of Kibra, where daily life is filled with both hope and hardship, lives a bright young girl, Hellen, with a dream—to become an engineer and help build a better world. Her favorite meal is simple: rice and beef. She loves playing netball and finds joy in the quiet companionship of her cat. But beyond these everyday favorites lies a story of determination, resilience, and the power of opportunity.
Growing up, life was not easy. Her mother carried the weight of two impossible burdens—keeping her daughter in school and keeping the household running. “She couldn’t balance between paying my school fees and our household needs,” Hellen says . Like many families in under-resourced communities, education felt like a luxury—just out of reach.

Then, everything changed.
“When I received the news that I got the KEF scholarship, I was really excited. I knew things would get a bit easier for my mother.” It wasn’t just the school fees—it was the chance to breathe, to dream, to focus on her studies without the constant fear of being sent home for unpaid balances.
Through KEF, she found more than financial support. She found mentorship, life skills sessions, and a community that believes in her. “100% of our requirements are catered for,” she explains. “There are so many advantages compared to others.”
But perhaps what stands out the most is how she describes KEF: “It feels like a second home. They are understanding and passionate about helping the vulnerable and needy in society.”
This is what your support makes possible.
Every dollar you give helps another child rise above their circumstances. It helps a mother rest easier. It builds a future filled with engineers, teachers, doctors, and leaders. When you support KEF, you’re not just giving a scholarship—you’re giving a second home, a lifeline, and a future.
Every dollar counts.
